The Indirect Procurement Category Analyst will be supporting Global Category Managers in various areas of Indirect Procurement including execution of category sourcing strategies, market research, contracting, supplier coordination and performance management, and category KPI and baseline tracking. This requires a range of skills including project management, market and industry knowledge, organizational, analytical, and social skills. The Category Analyst will be part of a cross-functional European team responsible for handling the Emerson sourcing process for energy and utilities and may occasionally other categories of indirect materials and services procurement. This role will require prior procurement experience. Knowledge of energy and utilities procurement is highly desirable.


• Work with global category leadership to define Energy and Utilities strategies in Europe, gradually taking on additional category responsibilities as part of career progression

• Perform Market and Supplier Research and develop impact assessments to support category strategy where applicable.

• Work with the Global Sourcing Team to support or handle management of incoming procurement project requests from regional category managers based in Europe and will lead planning and execution of a procurement projects, which will include stakeholder engagement and assessment of project requirements, development, and execution to project schedules and timelines, coordination, and management of requests for quotation (RFQ’s) with suppliers, and direct contact and outreach to regional suppliers.

• Facilitate completion of contracts applying Emerson templates upon request from Category Managers.

• Help manage utility bill processing, reconciliation, and payment processes with third-party banking and/or audit agencies.

• Assist with overall supplier performance management.

• Participate and present to regional teams and project team participants in a variety of calls and meetings in all world areas.

• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual ad-hoc reports as requested by the Regional Category Managers.

• Ability to travel both domestically and internationally; intermittent travel (<5%) based upon projects and priorities


• 2-4 years prior commodity or category management experience in a procurement role is required, preferably in energy procurement.

• Prior industry relationships, a general understanding of the regional energy markets and prior experience working with renewables-based procurement strategies would be preferred 

• Familiarity with Oracle (on-premises or cloud) or category specific procurement applications (SAP/Ariba, Coupa, etc.) is desirable

• General experience or exposure to business data and/or business intelligence systems applied for reporting purposes such as transportation management systems, supply chain or other indirect and information systems (ERP, automated manifesting, compliance documents etc.). 

• Candidate must have strong analytical skills and ability to review and provide interpretive analysis using a variety of data sets and to develop robust analytical models and frame works used to set or evaluate supplier/category pricing models.

• Good interpersonal communications skills and the ability to communicate and align with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to handle ambiguity, plan and work independently, and excellent planning and time management skills are a requirement for this position

• Good project management skills including analytical and problem-solving capabilities. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Power Point, Excel, and Word software, as well as PowerBi.

• Proficient English is Required. French or German would be a plus.


• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, Supply Chain, or related subject area.

• Additional certifications or advanced education will be taken into consideration when determining salary
