When Amazon.com launched in 1995, it was with the mission “to be Earth’s most customer-centric" company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online, and endeavors to offer its customers the lowest possible prices.

Opened in 2005, Amazon’s Development Center in Iasi was Amazon’s first R&D facility in Eastern Europe. It plays a major role in the city’s burgeoning tech industry, employing skilled experts who are inventing exciting new technologies. 

The Center is also known for the business teams who manage programs for our Retail, Compliance Organizations.

Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, and Compliance (R1SC)

R1SC Operations investigates potentially unsafe products and suppliers, prohibited and restricted products, and controversial or offensive goods. The organization removes the listings from sale as needed, and implements proactive safeguards, such as proof of compliance to applicable global or local standards. In addition, the organization reviews Selling Partner (SP) requests and documentation to enable their sales once they meet regulatory compliance. 

The organization's main objectives are: 1) Ensure Amazon's product selection meets safety and regulatory standards; thus, increasing Customer trust while reducing their exposure to unsafe non-compliant products while improving SP's experience. 2) Strive to build robust mechanism to protect customers from products that are illegal, illegally marketed, controversial or otherwise in violation of Amazon's policies while we enable our Selling Partners (SPs) to offer their broadest selection of complaint products.

An usual day at the office for our teams could include: checking customer reviews and safety concerns, restricting products that are not compliant, or classifying our products based on safety and legal policies.
